Sew and Tell Sewciety

HOW IT WORKS:
Think of the Sew & Tell Sewciety like a book club, but for sewers.
The idea is at the start of each month we pick a theme, from there you register your interest and pay a small $10 fee (this goes towards the drinks and nibbles catch up at the end of the month, more details below)
On the 1st of each month, I will announce the theme for the month as well as the date for the reveal evening at the end of the month.
This will be announced on both the @valleythreads_thestitchery and the @chchsews Instagram pages as well as on the page here.
You then have a month to make a garment or an item of your choice in the theme of the month.
At the end of the month (the last Friday evening or close too) we will all get together for an evening of drinks and nibbles at my studio in Ferrymead and we reveal what we made.
You can keep your sewing a secret or share it on socials while you are making, its completely up to you.

THE RULES:

  • You need to register to partake in the monthly event, you can do that by clicking the Join Now button (to the right)

  • Make sure you can make the reveal evening - Book it in your calendars NOW

  • Pay $10 when you register (this is non-refundable if you pull out of the month or can’t make the reveal evening)

  • You don’t have to sign up every month, lives are busy, I get that, or maybe you are not feeling inspired about the theme that month, so just sign up for the months you to want to join in.

  • You need to make something within the theme of the month in the four weeks or so before the reveal evening

  • You can use whatever pattern and fabric you want for your garment/item

  • Use the theme to get right outside your comfort zone and make something a little crazy, or you can just make a staple for the wardrobe rotation, it’s completely up to you.

  • Any skill level sewer can join us.

  • We will be celebrating all successes and failures, so if your garment/item does not work out, we still want you to bring it along to the reveal evening and show us, sometimes the stars just don’t align and things don’t go to plan, and that’s ok, bring it anyway and share your nightmare sew!

  • There is no judgement on yours, or anyone else’s makes, we are all there to support each other, meet new people and learn about new sewing patterns.

  • The reveal evening is not a critique session, but if you want feedback feel free to ask for it.

COST:
$10 when you register your spot, this will cover the cost of the drinks and nibbles for the reveal evening.

REVEAL EVENING:
Join us on the last Friday of the month (or close to depending on how my classes lie in the calendar)
We will get together in my Ferrymead studio, have some drinks and nibbles, lots of chat and then we will start the reveals.
Each person can model (if wearing) or show what they have made, give a wee chat about what pattern you chose, fabric, it changes if any and any positive or negatives things they found while making.
It doesn’t have to be a big long presentation, so don’t panic! Less than a minute, and if you are too shy to share, I will happily do it for you.
