Adult Beginners Class

We have two projects to make, a lined tote to start and a pair of Pyjama Pants

Tote Bag: This is a nice easy project to start on, using the Costa Tote pattern from Helens Closet you will learn how to sew straight seams using the recommended seam allowance, how to edgestitch and topstitch, also how to bag out the lining to the main outer tote for a clean professional finish

Pyjama Pants: Who doesn't need a pair of PJ pants to lounge around in? This will be your introduction to making a garment to fit your body. You will be using a supplied PJ pattern, which comes in both mens & womens fit. You will use the sewing skills you have learnt in the tote bag, while adding some new skills such as elastic waist casings, and attaching the elastic and drawcord. Also finishing techniques to get the professional finish on the inside

This is a 10 hour course, run over four consecutive week nights, 6-8:30pm

Cost for workshop $250, plus the cost of your fabric for each project.

  • How to thread a sewing machine, and insert a bobbin

  • Pressing techniques

Tote Bag

  • How to lay fabric & cut out your pattern correctly

  • How to sew seams & finish insides

  • How to sew seams using correct seam allowances

  • The difference between edge stitching and topstitching - you will be sewing both on this tote

  • How to bag out lining to outer for a clean professional finish on the inside

  • How to take key body measurements to chose the right size for you

  • How to trace/ cut the pattern for your size

  • How to lay fabric & cut out your pattern correctly

  • Constructing elastic waistband

  • Buttonholes

  • Inserting drawcord to waist

  • Purchase pdf pattern - which must be purchased separately as its licensed to individual users

  • Fabric suitable for all projects - you will be instructed on suitable fabric's to use when you sign up
